So, as you can see, this is my first ever blog post. Decided to join all you crazy people in the blogosphere. Actually one of my friends has been telling me for years to get a blog, but just gave up. Well, here I finally am.
Its kind of hard starting this up when you have no technical skills whatsoever. I wanted my own website so that I could have my own domain name, rather than to join a blog site, which would of been free and much easier! I guess this way I can say or do whatever I want, post pictures of naked girls..hehe j/k. Hmmmm…
Not going to write much more because I’m still getting the hang of organizing everything. I still have to pick a theme for my site, organize everything, pick what links I want to include, blah blah blah…. So, do not be surprised if you come across many small and large changes to this site as you come and go over the next few weeks. Here’s the first to hopefully many posts!
I debate on occasion with my friends about the sanctity of marriage. I can discuss that debate another time. But, it got me thinking about the divorce rate in this country. More than 50% of marriages end up in divorce. I would venture to guess the majority of people who have gotten a divorce cheated or were cheated on before the actual divorce. Conservatives always denounce this, saying our family values have gone to crap, etc., etc. However, is this really a bad thing??? Let’s see if we can spin this…I mean, sure, if you are cheated on, you will feel like crap. But, can you imagine what would happen to our economy if no one ever, ever cheated or got a divorce??!!?? What’s an engagement ring cost, 5-10k? Average wedding in America costs upwards of 30k nowadays. If a couple divorces, that’s just 2 more eligible people to get married again, buy another ring, have another wedding.
Plus, when they divorce, they will sell their home. Or, if one person keeps it, then once the other gets married again, he/she will just buy another house with their new spouse. Either way, a new home is bought or sold. People who date probably spend more going out than a married couple. And I would venture to guess that at least 80% of a private investigator’s business comes from people trying to catch their partner cheating. Prostitutes would lose much of their business, since I gather a large part of their income is from guys who have wives or girlfriends.
Not only would this economy fall further into recession, I’d venture to guess it would rival the Great Depression.
So, the next time you see or know someone who has cheated on their significant other, don’t look at them in disdain….thank them for allowing you to keep your home, job, car, etc….
Watched this on Thursday night and thought it was a very good episode. I’m kind of curious as to where they are headed with Lana now. I read somewhere online that while a lot of the main cast was re-signed for next year, some are not coming back full time as they want to start their movie careers. I hope this is not what happens to Lana. Even though her character is so dumb, she is so pretty that you tend to overlook that stuff…:)
I also don’t have any clue what Braniac has planned with Kara. Thought it was dumb of Kara to go off with him on the promise that he’d cure Lana, but then they just up and left without fixing her. What’s up with that? I like James Marsters, but his character here does not even compare to him playing Spike on Buffy. That was just the coolest character and I don’t think he’ll ever play anyone as interesting.
And I also want to know why Lionel is so scared about Lex finding out the weakness of the “Traveller”. Ummm….doesn’t everyone already know Krptonite kills him?????
Anyway, good episode. As an added bonus, got to see all of the ladies of the cast and they all looked good as usual. Looking forward to seeing what happens next.
I was surfing and came across an article about Tom Cruise. At the end of the article was a comment section and I browsed through it. There were definitely more than a few blasting Scientology as a cult of wackos and such.
While it is true that often times people will hide behind the internet and anonymously comment on things that they would have no courage whatsoever to do otherwise, I’ve actually heard comments and conversations like this in person as well.
I am by no means a follower of Scientology and do not believe in some of the things I’ve read about it. But I don’t feel the need to go out of my way to denounce it. It doesn’t matter to me what people believe. So, why do so many people feel the need to vilify things that either go against their religion or are just different from it? Does it make them feel better or make their religion seem that much better? Do they feel that they need to keep it down, so that it will never rise above their own religion?
And what exactly is the difference between a cult and a religion? From what I can tell, both are exactly the same except one is socially accepted and the other is not. Sounds to me then that religions can therefore be called socially accepted cults. It is because they are socially accepted that all of us grew up learning about Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, etc, etc. We hear some of the beliefs that Scientologists believe in and we scoff at how outrageous or loony or crazy they are. But, ask yourself this. If you had never, ever grown up in a world immersed in the beliefs of your religion, and then you picked up, for example, the Bible for the first time, can you honestly say that the stuff you read in there would not sound just as far fetched and outrageous?
Do you ever wonder if your religion had to pass through cult status during its infancy as well? It probably did way back in time, but look at it now. Maybe in 500 years or so, Scientology will no longer be that crazy cult, but rather a socially accepted one, just like yours.
As I sit here very slowly typing away on my keyboard, aching and tired, I’ve come to realize a few things. I just got back from playing basketball with my younger brothers and their friends. I’m not ashamed of the way I played. I didn’t play bad and I held my own. We played for a couple hours, had lots of fun, and here I am now, in pain and just not feeling like getting up at all.
I used to play basketball for hours on end every day, and not feel a thing afterwards. I used to watch “old” people play and laugh at how slow they were, or how clumsy they were. I wonder now if that is what I look like nowadays out on the court. I am by no means out of shape. I go to the gym everyday after work and run for a couple miles on the treadmill, and I’m proud to say that is not hard for me. But, after today, I also know that I’m not IN shape either. I’m still going to play ball when my friends or brothers. I just have to realize though that it takes me much longer to recover than in the past.
Sports are a young man’s game, and I am no longer young.
Health care in this country is a shambles, to say the least. I am not smart enough to come up with a solution, but can definitely point out some of the problems, starting with the drug companies.
In 2002, “the combined profits for the ten drug companies in the Fortune 500 ($35.9 billion) were more than the profits for all the other 490 businesses put together ($33.7 billion)”. The profit margin in the industry is 28.7%, based on an article in the Public Citizen (Pharmaceutical Industry’s Propaganda Campaign Against the Prescription Drug Fairness for Seniors Act). That’s like 3 times the amount of manufacturers on consumer goods. The question that has to be asked then is, are drug companies in business to make money or to help people. When push comes to shove, a choice between the two has to be made.
If drug companies really wanted to help and cure people, why do they price drugs so high? Why do so few drug companies spend so little on researching and developing vaccines? There is no money to be made there. If you vaccinate someone then ideally you will no longer need drugs for that disease. Where is the profit in that? Are their shareholders going to be happy with that?
The driving force of Capitalism, for better or worse, is to make money, and lots of it. But if the goal is to make money, then Medicine and Capitalism just do not mix. There are too many driving forces other than the main one, which is to help people. I have not even mentioned doctors, health insurance companies, dentists, etc. Can you really be sure that they have it in their best interests to cure/help you as well? Or are they just prescribing procedures that you may not really need or denying coverage that is “too expensive” just to make money? I’m not saying that socialized medicine is the answer. Like I said earlier, I’m not smart enough to come up with a solution. Whoever comes up with one will be a rich person, which in a nutshell sums up the problem perfectly.
